GSlapt is an open source and totally free graphical software implemented in C/GTK+ toolkit as an easy-to-use, easy-to-configure and straightforward GUI (Graphical User Interface) front-end client for the slapt-get command-line software.

What is slapt-get

slapt-get is an open source command-line software that can be compared with the APT system of Debian GNU/Linux, but for Slackware. It is a package manager that allows users to search Slackware mirrors for packages, compare packages, install new applications, update or remove all installed packages.

Designed for Slackware

Please note that the GSlapt software is usable only on Slackware distributions, supporting both 32-bit and 64-bit installations, and cannot be installed on a GNU/Linux operating system that uses a different package manager than slapt-get.

Can be used to install, remove, update or compare packages

Just like slapt-get, which is needed to install and run the GSlapt software, it allows users to install, update, remove and compare software packages on a Slackware Linux operating system, but, of course, via a graphical user interface, not through the command-line interface.

Getting started with GSlapt

If you’re running a 32-bit Slackware distribution, simply download the pre-built binary package from Softpedia and install it with slapt-get. To install the program on a 64-bit Slackware operating system, download the source package, save it on your Home directory and unpack it.

Open a terminal emulator application, navigate to the location of the extracted archive files (e.g. cd /home/softpedia/gslapt-0.5.4a), run the ‘./configure && make’ command to configure/compile the program, followed by the ‘sudo make install’ command to install it system wide.

After installation, open GSlapt from the main menu of your desktop environment and interact (update, uninstall, install) with Slackware packages that are installed on your distribution or the ones from the main software repositories.
