Advanced Strategic Command (ASC) is an open source, multiplatform and completely free TBS (Turn Based Strategy) game inspired by the Battle Isle 2 and 3 turn-based tactics computer video games developed by Blue Byte Software in the ‘90s.

You can play against a human player or AI

The game has been engineered in such a way that it can be played with other human players (either by mail or hotseat) or against the computer (AI - Artificial Intelligence). In addition, ASC can be used to run the Project: Battle Planets turn-based massively multiplayer strategy game.

Installing Advanced Strategic Command

To install the Advanced Strategic Command game on a GNU/Linux operating system, download the latest release from the game’s official website or from Softpedia, save the archive on a location of your choice, preferably your Home directory, and unpack it. Make sure all of its runtime dependencies are installed (SDL_image, SDL_mixer, SDL_sound, Lua, Boost, etc).

Open a Terminal app, navigate to the location where you have unpacked the archive file (e.g. cd /home/softpedia/asc- and run the ‘./configure && make’ command to configure and compile the game. Install it using the ‘sudo make install’ command after the compilation process.

Getting started with Advanced Strategic Command

Start the game from the Start Menu of your desktop environment, via the Games section. A new campaign will be automatically started, but you will be able to configure various game options, sound options, load an existing game, save the current game, continue a network game, view most recent network games, send messages or debug the game from its main menu.

Runs on Linux, BSD and Microsoft Windows

Advanced Strategic Command is a cross-platform application written in the C++ programming language. It currently runs on GNU/Linux, FreeBSD and Microsoft Windows operating systems, supporting 32 and 64-bit computer platforms.
